Every town we cover, and what changes there
Each of these has its own page, because the ground and the housing stock are not the same across the region. The short version:
Madison — New houses, old ground
Madison has absorbed an enormous share of the region’s growth, and most of it arrived as new subdivisions on land that was farm ground within living memory. Read what that means for a Madison property.
Meridianville — Rural lots, uncontrolled water
Meridianville sits in open country north of the city, and the properties are larger, flatter, and often without the storm infrastructure a subdivision takes for granted. Read what that means for a Meridianville property.
Hazel Green — A century and a half of construction
Hazel Green has been settled a long time, and its housing shows it: genuinely old farmhouses, mid-century additions, manufactured homes on private lots, and new builds on subdivided acreage. Read what that means for a Hazel Green property.
Harvest — Where the ground stays soft
Harvest sits on the flatter western side of the county, and much of it holds water noticeably longer than the ridges do. Read what that means for a Harvest property.
New Market — Hillside lots change the water math
New Market sits where the valley meets rising ground, and slope is the variable that makes it different from the flatter parts of the county. Read what that means for a New Market property.
Owens Cross Roads — Two markets in one service area
Toward Hampton Cove it is newer, planned, and suburban; away from it, rural properties on well water with decades-old housing. Read what that means for an Owens Cross Roads property.
Hampton Cove — Good houses, difficult ground
Hampton Cove is newer construction, generally well built, and the calls we take here surprise owners for exactly that reason. Read what that means for a Hampton Cove property.
Athens — Historic stock and rental turnover
Athens carries a genuinely old core — antebellum and Victorian housing around the square, much of it converted to apartments or student rentals over the decades. Read what that means for an Athens property.
Decatur — A river runs beside it
Decatur sits on the Tennessee River, and the water table reflects that. Read what that means for a Decatur property.
Four different water stories in one valley
The growth corridors — Madison, parts of Harvest, the Hampton Cove side of Owens Cross Roads — are new houses on old farm ground, where construction backfill compacts over a few years until the grade that drained at closing quietly reverses. The rural north — Meridianville, Hazel Green, New Market — has no storm infrastructure at all, so driveways, culverts, and ditch lines decide where water goes, and a silted culvert can end as a wet crawl space. The mountain base — Hampton Cove, parts of New Market — takes runoff from higher ground and sits on a water table that rises after sustained rain and falls slowly.
The river towns — Decatur, low-lying Athens — carry older working housing over ground that stays damp because the Tennessee River keeps it that way.
That variation is why we don’t work from a template. Each page above reads its own community, and the inspection reads your specific lot.
Three constants across all ten
The clay. Red Tennessee Valley subsoil passes less than an inch of water an hour everywhere in this service area. Grading and downspout corrections do more here than owners expect, which is why they lead our scopes — they are the cheapest line available.
The humidity target. Keep crawl space relative humidity under about 55 percent and growth stays arrested. A hygrometer costs under twenty dollars and turns a suspicion into a number you can watch.
No state license. Alabama accredits no mold contractors and sets no mold standard, valley-wide. Whoever you hire, ask what written standard they follow and ask to see the moisture readings behind the scope.
Somewhere between towns, or just outside this list? Ask — regional travel gets quoted honestly.
What mold removal costs across the valley
Pricing does not change by town. Remediation runs $1,500–$6,000, crawl space work with a sealed barrier and drainage $2,500–$9,000, attics $1,500–$5,000, and HVAC systems $1,000–$4,000 whether the house is in Hazel Green or Decatur. What changes is which of those you need, because the water arrives differently in each community — settled builder grade in Madison, a silted culvert in Meridianville, mountain runoff in Hampton Cove, a river-fed water table in Decatur. The cost guide breaks every class out, and the free inspection tells you which one you are actually in.
Service area questions
Do you charge extra for towns outside Huntsville?
No surcharge inside the ten communities listed here - Madison, Limestone, and Morgan counties are normal service area. Beyond that we quote travel honestly and separately rather than burying it in the line items, and we will tell you on the phone before scheduling.
Which county are you actually based around?
Madison County is the center of the service area, with Limestone (Athens) and Morgan (Decatur) covered daily. Everything in this list is a routine drive, and none of it changes the price of the free inspection.
Is the mold problem worse in some of these towns?
The mechanism is identical valley-wide - clay that passes less than an inch of water an hour - but how the water reaches the house differs. Newer areas fail at settled grade, rural areas at driveways and culverts, mountain-base areas at runoff and a rising water table, river towns at a permanently damp ground condition.
How fast can you reach my town?
Same or next business day for scheduled inspections across all ten, and immediately for active water anywhere in the service area. Purchase inspections get priority because closing dates do not move.
What it means when we say we cover a town
It means the free walkthrough happens at your address on the same terms it would in Huntsville — the same moisture readings and photographs of what is growing, the same written scope afterwards, and travel quoted as its own line rather than buried inside the others. If a job is far enough out that travel is material, you will see that number before you agree to anything.
Damp problems get worse while they wait, so distance never becomes a reason to put a visit off.
These 9 communities are where we work regularly enough to know the ground before we arrive. That is the honest boundary: not a radius drawn on a map, but the places we have looked at enough properties to recognise what we are seeing.
Get a free Huntsville mold inspection
Tell us what you’re seeing — a musty smell that gets stronger near the floor, growth on drywall or joists, a crawl space that never dries out, water standing beside the slab after a storm — and we’ll bring a moisture meter to the places that actually explain it. Buying a house? Say so; those inspections get priority scheduling.
